Panhandling On Dam Neck

I thought the city passed a law making this illegal…

Seem this couple, the guy is a mile down the road at another intersection, have been busy working the Lynnhaven and Great Neck areas for the past couple weeks. My guess is that moving around a lot, is a better tactic then the last person I saw working the Dam Neck Intersections, took him two weeks to get enough money for a bus ticket back to Jersey…

Presidents Day

Why is it that it seems that Virginia Beach City Schools is the only school district in the country that does not observe Presidents Day

Snow Clue

I find it very interesting, that with pending cuts in the coming months, that the city of Virginia Beach can’t find a better way to deploy manpower after the big snow storm, then to have close to a dozen workers cleaning the sidewalks of the municipal center on Sunday… I am guessing that these guys were most likely collecting overtime… I guess it’s somehow important, that the municipal center looks good no matter what the cost, while all the rest of the city looks like crap…

City Workers Cleaning sidewalks at municipal center

Meanwhile I have seen a grand total of 8 city snowplows on the roads, driving through the snow covered roads with their blades up… You would think that if the truck is moving, and there is snow on the road, the blade should be down clearing the roads… It is now 3 days since the storm hit, and the majority of main roads look like ass, and even worse at the intersections… You would think that a city truck with snowplow moving down snow covered primary road, that the blade would be down and snow would be getting cleared…

Guys make better use of your limited resources…

No Vans Locally…

It really makes you wonder how serious the city is in supporting the local economy and business when it goes all the way to Northern Virginia to buy Vans for the Parks and Rec Department…

I have to believe that at least one of the local dealers, had to have a basic white van, and if not in Virginia Beach, at least one on Hampton Roads. but needing to go all the way to Tyson’s…

What About Us…

I read this article from WVEC, and had to ask what about us, the taxpaying citizens of the City of Virginia Beach. Apparently the City Manager , instead of doing his job, making the tough decisions, Mr Spore’s office has decided to let the cities workers decide how to save $49 Million dollars for the 2011 fiscal year.

I guess one way to save money is, getting rid of the employee’s/departments that have enough time available in their normal work day, to process 7,000 surveys…
Then you can eliminate take home vehicles, something I have thought was stupid for a long tin and as of yet fail to see what the value to the taxpayer is…
You may also want to consider not paying city workers to change lightbulbs in street lights on weekends, for which I betting there is some overtime involved, and since when does it take a crew of 4+ to change lightbulbs…
Then maybe you could start fining the city workers that run red lights in city vehicles, or cut subsidies to things like the Sandler Center, I read a while back that the city kicks down around a quarter million to help cover the costs there…
